Tournament rules

Hey, everyone!

I've just finished updating the rules for the Guitar Hero III tournament. And here they are:

I. Tournament Set-up:

  • The tournament is a one-on-one, single-elimination style.
  • Entry-level players will compete on Easy and Medium difficulty modes.
  • Advanced players will compete on Medium, Hard, and Expert difficulty modes.
  • The player with the higher score will advance to the next round.
  • Ties will be resolved by highest percentage, then by note streak, if required.
  • The player with the lowest seeding rank has first choice of song.
  • The library will provide basic SG controllers. Players are welcomed to bring their own guitar controllers. No functionally altered controllers permitted.
  • No Hyperspeed, Performance, Precision, or Easy Expert codes.
  • No pausing.

II. Seeding Rounds:

  • Seeding round begins no later than 7:00 PM and ends approximately at 8:00 PM.
  • All tournament participants will play “Rock and Rock All Nite” on their choice of difficulty mode.
  • Players who choose Easy will be placed in the Entry-level tournament bracket.
  • Players who choose Hard or Expert will be placed in the Advanced tournament bracket.
  • Players who choose Medium will be divided among the two tournament brackets by scores, then by percentages, then by note streaks, if necessary.
  • There is no elimination during the seeding rounds.
  • A “No-Fail” code will be used during the seeding round only.
  • The statistics will be recorded and that will determine the seeding.
  • Byes may be issued to players depending on the number of tournament participants.

III. Elimination Rounds:

  • The first elimination round begins approximately at 8:00 PM.
  • Elimination round heats will alternate between the Entry-level and Advanced tournament brackets. Whichever bracket has the largest number of players will go first.
  • Entry-level players will face-off on Easy difficulty mode, starting with the “Starting Out Small” set list.
  • Advanced players will pro face-off on Medium difficulty mode, starting with the “Big House Blues” set list.
  • Successive rounds will progress through the set lists until the Final Round.
  • When the brackets are down to the semi-finals, the difficulty level will increase. Entry-level players will play on Medium difficulty. Advanced players will play on Hard difficulty. (Note: This change may occur sooner or later in the tournament, depending on the number of tournament participants.)

IV. Consolation Rounds:

  • Before the Final Rounds, the players eliminated during the semi-finals will compete with each other for third place.
  • Entry-level players will pro face-off on “Even Flow” on Medium difficulty.
  • Advanced players will pro face-off on “Cliffs of Dover” on Expert difficulty.

V. Final Rounds:

  • Entry-level players will pro face-off on “Welcome to the Jungle” on Medium difficulty.
  • Advanced players will pro face-off on “One” on Expert difficulty.

VI. Misc.

  • Registration is required before the end of the seeding round to enter the competition. First come, first served.
  • Come early! Once the first elimination round begins, no additional players may enter the tournament.
  • All players must present themselves to compete upon being called by the emcee. If they do not present themselves, a two-minute warning will be issued. If, after two minutes, they still do not present themselves, they will be eliminated from the competition.
  • Tournament rules are subject to change based on the number of tournament participants, time constraints, and any other conditions recognized as revision-worthy by the judges.
  • Participation does not guarantee compensation of any kind (except prize-winners).
  • All decisions of the judges are final.
  • We are a religious college. The songs “Anarchy in the U.K.,” “Raining Blood,” and “Number of the Beast” are banned from the competition.
  • The point of this tournament is to have FUN! Play your best, and enjoy yourselves. Good luck and GAME ON!
